It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 3/4/2019 #imwayr

Kellee Moye of Unleashing Readers and Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give Kathryn’s (at Book Date) “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?” meme a kidlit focus, reviewing books in children’s literature (picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, or anything in the world of kidlit). If you enjoy this type of reading, join us every Monday!

I usually sit down on Sunday evenings to draft my IMWAYR post for an early Monday morning publication. But this Sunday has not gone according to as planned. After church services, we arrived home before TWO of our children began vomiting on our kitchen floor. Then a few hours later, I started feeling pretty badly and finally just went to bed. This week is supposed to be a vacation time up in Rapid City since it’s our college Spring Break. We have hotel reservations and a list of activities planned in the city to celebrate two of our family birthdays. But at this point, I’m honestly not sure that we’ll make it out of our house. That said, my post will be unusually short.

What have I been reading??

    1. YES! The library shows it in our catalog, but I feel like I’ve had in on hold forever (at least a few weeks). Really looking forward to it. Thanks for dropping by, Lisa!

    1. Well, everyone’s awake and slowly moving around. Ready to finish packing and (hopefully) get on the road in the next hour. Other than some remaining butterflies in my tummy, I think I’m doing okay. Wish us luck!! ❤

  1. The Fourteenth Goldfish and The Third Mushroom are awesome. It’s awesome that they’re writing more books that are fun middle grade stories that feature kids that are interested in science. I also like the relationship between Ellie and Melvin. Hope you get to feeling better soon! No fun to be sick during a school break!

    1. I really love the science interest and the Ellie/grandfather relationship, too. I just lost my grandfather a few months ago, so there was a sweet sadness to the whole thing. *sniff, sniff* Everyone seems to be doing great on the health front. We went on our trip and all was well. Whew! Thanks for swinging by, Jana!

  2. I have not read The 14th Goldfish, but I know I need to!
    I love the Misunderstood Shark!
I have a student who LOVES Emily Windsnap–she wants me to read it so badly!

    Happy reading this week 🙂

    1. I’m currently on book #4 of the Windsnap series and am really loving it!! I never read any of Liz Kessler’s books before, so this has been a real treat. I’m still hoping to make it through books #1-#8 by Monday. Wish me luck! lol

  3. Oh no, oh no…I’m so sorry the norovirus visited your household. My youngest brought a paper home about it and I was like pls do not bring this home. I hope you are feeling better and have some back up.

    1. We’re very lucky it was not norovirus. They each just threw up the one time and we ended up going on a fantastic b-day trip. So whew!! With a bigger family, planning a trip in advance is always a little bit of a gamble — just never know if everyone’s going to be in perfect health during the winter months. LOL Thanks so much for dropping by, Stefanie!

    1. YES! I really enjoyed both The Fourteenth Goldfish and the sequel — such a fun story wrapped around science. This was my first introduction to her work and I was VERY pleased!! Thanks so much for visiting, Earl!

    1. SO much better. By the following morning, everyone was ready to go on the trip. I’m beyond thrilled! I’m on the waiting list for the sequel, but I don’t seem to be moving up on the list. I’m guessing they cataloged it before it arrived, so perhaps we’re all still waiting. LOL Thanks for dropping by, Crystal!

  4. Oh, no, Shaye! A stomach virus on spring break week 😦 That’s awful. I am behind, as always (ha ha), so I hope by now you are all feeling better and were able to enjoy at least some of our planned vacation. We love Rapid City and have a bunch of family there. It’s a fun place. When my kids were small, they LOVED Dinosaur Park! And the new area downtown is really nice – we hung out there with family a few summers ago. Hope you get to enjoy at least part of your week!

    1. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing (basically a weak stomach over something that was eaten). So we were able to head off to RC and have a wonderful time. I LOVE knowing that you have family so close, Sue! Elisabeth, Linda, and Ricki from our IMWAYR group are also in pretty close proximity to my home. It would be such fun to all meet up some time!! #lateresponse

  5. I think it’s time that I pick up The Fourteenth Goldfish! I always see it come through in our library but always forget to reserve a copy! I also want to read The Book of Boy. I find the cover appealing. Let me know how it goes! Have a fun trip!

    1. I’m still working on The Book of Boy — I had to set it aside to finish up some reviews on ARCs that were being published this last week. But so far I’m enjoying it!! Thanks for visiting, Fats! #lateresponse
