It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 5/31/2021 #imwayr

2021-5-31-COLLAGE

It’s been an unusual last two months between the sale of our house, our vacation to Terry Peak (where we nearly slid right off a steep road and into a gulch during a surprise snow storm), and a severe illness in the family that meant an unexpected 1,000 mile trip across the country (Northwestern Nebraska to Texas). All in all, I felt out of sorts through most of April and May. But I think I’m finally ready to return to active status in my online communities. So for IMWAYR today, I’ll be brief. Like, super brief. Everything pictured above is in my reading pile – I’ve either recently finished it or I’m in the middle of reading it.

I’ll take a special moment to mention that I just recently finished reading The Adventure is Now by Jess Redman and it was such a wonderful, modern adventure story, FULL of heart. I highly recommend and, if you’re interested, my full review can be found HERE. I truly hope this one will be found in children’s libraries everywhere.

If you’re new to my blog, thank you for visiting today! Kellee Moye of Unleashing Readers and Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give Kathryn’s (at Book Date) “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?” meme a kidlit focus, reviewing books in children’s literature (picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, or anything in the world of kidlit). If you enjoy this type of reading, join us every Monday to share what you’ve been reading! And don’t forget to link up at either of the pages, above.

  1. I am so sorry—the last two months sound awful! I’m definitely glad you all didn’t slide into a gulch, and I’m sorry about the severe illness. It’s great to see you back on #IMWAYR! I recently read Starfish and The House in the Cerulean Sea and enjoyed them both, and I hope you do too! Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. It’s so great to be back! I’ve really enjoyed both Starfish and The House in the Cerulean Sea, too. I hope I’ll still be able to hit all my #MustReadin2021 as well as some “big books” for the summer challenge. This summer is already proving to be busy, busy, busy. Thanks so much for visiting!

    1. Thank you, Cheriee. It has been most unusual and I’ve felt the frustration of not having time to sit and read. Hopefully I can carve out some good time to get back into the swing of things, this summer. Thanks for dropping by!

  2. I’m glad to see you back and sorry about the rough two months; I hope things are calmer now.

I recently read The House on the Cerulean Sea and it was very cosy. I hope you enjoyed it!

    1. Things seem much calmer, now. Whew! Although we will be leaving in two weeks to meet up with family and then we will have company stayed for a couple weeks after we return, so yeah — I have loads of decluttering and unpacking to do before then. I’ve really enjoyed The House in the Cerulean Sea – have wondered if there was any chance of a sequel. Surely there are more adventures to be had! Thanks for visiting, Beth!

  3. Oh, Shaye, I’m so sorry to hear of your family illness. I hope that everything will work out. My thoughts are with you.

    Welcome back to blogging!

I see The House on the Cerulean Sea is on your list – I’ve heard such rave reviews of it! I really want to read it now, too.

I;m late this week, but I hope you enjoyed your reading!

    1. I’m coming back to this comment super late, but just had to say that I thoroughly enjoyed The House in the Cerulean Sea. Kinda makes me wish there would be a series based on it. 🙂
