It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 8/30/2021 #imwayr

2021-8-30-COLLAGE

It’s been quite an interesting summer of traveling, of worrying over sick family (including Delta), watching our skies darken due to forest fires all around us, and believe it or not, we’re still continuing to settle into our new home (even though it’s been a year since our closing date). My goal was to at least get in one blog post before the end of August. TADA – Here I am! 😊 It may not be pretty today, but I’ve gotta get back with the program one way or another.

If you’re new to this blog, welcome! Since today is Monday, I participate in a weekly #IMWAYR meme. Kellee Moye of Unleashing Readers and Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give Kathryn’s (at Book Date) “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?” meme a kidlit focus, reviewing books in children’s literature (picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, or anything in the world of kidlit). If you enjoy this type of reading, join us every Monday to share what you’ve been reading!

Until I have time to make a thorough list of all that I’ve read this summer, I’ll keep it short and simple. I’m currently finishing up the following two books:

My seven-year-old daughter has been reading me the Wings of Fire graphic novels every night most of the summer. We’re currently on book #4 and she cannot wait until the release of book #5 this December! I couldn’t tell you how many times she’s read them because it’s CONTINUAL! She’s even started writing her own dragon spin-off books.

During my sabbatical from blogging, I was thrilled to learn that Ben Gartner’s third book in The Eye of Ra series, People of the Sun, will be released February 1st. I’m so happy to delve back into that series soon and I would encourage you to add it to your reading list if you haven’t already.

I have three NetGalley books that I need to review over the next couple weeks. Then they JUST approved Say It Out Loud by Allison Varnes. While I’m excited to read it, I kinda wish they wouldn’t wait until AFTER a book has been published to approve my read request. Nevertheless, I’m hoping to start that one very soon.

goodreadslogoMy Goodreads account is a MESS, right now. I hope to get that cleaned up this week so that I can begin enjoyed the app again. I’m having to search my old library records and apps because I didn’t write ANY reviews from my summer reads. Anyway, if we’re not yet connected, please feel free to friend me HERE.

  1. It’s terrific to see you here, Shaye, & to read a little bit about what your summer has been. I’m sorry for the illness & hope all is better now. Thanks for the shares. Say It Out Loud is a new title to me!

    1. It’s great to be back, Linda! I’ve missed the ongoing participating and am wondering what all I’ve missed. I remember enjoying Varnes’s Property of the Rebel Librarian, so I’m hoping this one is just as engaging and meaningful. Thanks for dropping by!

  2. Welcome back, Shaye! Nice to see you in the Monday line-up again 🙂 Sounds like quite a summer for you – sorry you’ve been affected by COVID and the fires.

I love that your daughter loves this series so much that she’s been reading it to you AND is writing her own volume! That’s so awesome to see a kid get that excited about books. My son is 27 and is still that way – he’s currently re-reading books 1 and 2 of a favorite trilogy to prepare for reading the final book!

Glad to have you back – I missed you!

    1. It’s so nice to be back, Sue. I’ve missed you, too. It’s immensely satisfying to see children digging a series! I hope that focus will continue into my children’s adult lives, as well! Thanks for swinging by today!

    1. She cracks me UP! And, of course, she can’t just wait until she finished each book. No, she has to re-read her handmade book from the start after she adds each new bit. It’s so cute! I hope I can continue to help cultivate that excitement and love of books, storytelling, and writing. Thanks for stopping by, Amy!

  3. Hooray—welcome back! I always love seeing your posts, so I’m excited that you’ve returned to the #IMWAYR world. My Goodreads is chaotic too, and I haven’t even been off from blogging, so don’t feel too bad! I’m so sorry you’ve had sick family in addition to the forest-fire chaos. All of these books look like great reads, and I look forward to seeing what else you’ve read once you have a chance to write it all up! Thanks so much for the wonderful post!

    1. Every time I log into Goodreads and see my lack of reviews or updates, I have a moment of panic. Because HOW DO YOU CATCH UP ONCE YOU’VE BEEN OFF FOR TWO MONTHS?? My checklists and notes are so important to me and so I dunno… maybe I just click everything as having been read and then move on. Fresh start? I guess we’ll see. Anyway, thank you for the welcome back. I’ve missed you all and I look forward to catching up!!

  4. Welcome back, I wondered where you had gone to. I’m so sorry to hear that this miserable virus has impacted your family and hope they are doing well, with no long term problems. Bookwise – I really liked One of the Murphys and have a copy of A Promised Land waiting to be read (the operative word is waiting). I’m looking forward to your upcoming reviews.

    1. The further I get into One for the Murphys, the more I am glad that I bought our copy. I would really like to read this one with my kiddos. And I’ve really enjoyed A Promised Land (even though the first few chapters were not all that enjoyable for me). I purchased the audiobook since he reads it, himself. Now I’m looking forward to volume 2. Thanks for swinging by, Alex!
