Kellee Moye of Unleashing Readers and Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give Kathryn’s (at Book Date) “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?” meme a kidlit focus, reviewing books in children’s literature (picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, or anything in the world of kidlit). If you enjoy this type of reading, join us every Monday!
Every few months I write a post where I claim it might be my shortest. But this one wins for sure. I’m still traveling in Texas and have not had much time to read or write. However, I’ve been enjoying both Ahimsa and EngiNerds. Can’t wait to briefly review both next Monday!
Have a wonderful reading week, everyone!
Two great books!

I read half of Ahimsa, then got involved in other books and never went back to it and finally had to return it to the library after receiving many threatening emails about how overdue it was. (Ok, they weren’t really threatening. They were just bills for the cost of replacing it.) I should get it again at some point and finish it because I thought it was an interesting story. Safe travels!

Oh my, it really was fascinating. Here in the states, we unfortunately experience racism, stereotyping, and bias primarily based on skin color, gender, and sexual preference. But there, especially around the time of partition, the class system was the measuring stick for everyone. I had a friend from India who was in library school with me and she once tried to explain what it was like. So this book re-opened that understanding for me. I read The Night Diary a few months before Ahimsa and I think they are both incredibly important titles covering different aspects of this time period. Now I’m on the lookout for more books on this historical experience. Wow!

We just read Enginerds. It is a great book to introduce to kids who love adventure. It would be fun to add to a basket titled, If you loved Dogman, try…

What an adventure it was! And the scientific ideas were pretty interesting, too. Now I understand why it’s so well-loved in our schools!

I sure did! I liked the different aspect from The Night Diary, too — both very important versions of the same time period. So glad I finally got around to this one!

It was such a good story — action-packed, frightening, and heart-warming all at the same time. Very good companion read to The Night Diary. I’ll be sure to share more in next week’s IMWAYR. Thanks for visiting, Myra!
